The warrior known as Shrine Guardian Seth carries the name and spirit of Seth Goldman, a young Hollow Knight fan whose real-life story became permanently woven into Team Cherry’s insectoid world. By 2026, as players continue to map every corner of Pharloom, the guardian has become one of Silksong’s most heartfelt tributes.

🧡 A Rare Diagnosis and a Special Wish

In 2019, Seth Goldman was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer. This aggressive illness affects bones or the soft tissue around bones and often appears in children and young adults. Facing a life-threatening diagnosis, Goldman connected with the Marty Lyons Foundation, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to granting wishes for children aged 3 to 17 who have terminal or life-threatening conditions. His wish was deeply personal: he wanted to meet the team at Team Cherry, the indie studio behind one of his favourite games, Hollow Knight.

The meeting turned into something far larger than a simple studio visit. After what Goldman described as a “super fun” talk with the developers, he received an extraordinary opportunity. Team Cherry invited him to design a character that would be implemented in the upcoming sequel, Hollow Knight Silksong. That collaborative dream eventually became Shrine Guardian Seth, a permanent fixture in Pharloom.
